Top 10 Basics: A good paper cutter or trimmer

A lot of us have at least one of these kicking around.
Personally I think I have half a dozen, but then I’m OCD and spent a fair bit
of time making my living off little bits of paper. But the good news is, I think
I’m fairly well qualified to talk about them, what makes a good one and what
makes a bad one.
The clear favorite of my old bunch was an older model I
bought at a big box store years ago. It made clean, straight cuts, and the best
feature, had a ruler that made sense. You see, depending on what you’re cutting
(or scoring on those that have the feature), the ruler plays a crucial part.
How can you make precise cuts if the smallest measure you can make is ¼ inch?
Trust me, you can’t, I’ve tried.
Now my favorite is the Stampin’ Trimmer. It’s small, I can
literally pack it in a suitcase or backpack (haven’t tried carrying it onto the
airplane yet, but don’t put it past me), and cuts really well. I’m not totally
won over by the score blade, but it’s better than most, and I will use it when
I have no other options. The actual cutting blade though is awesome!

And best of all, the ruler goes down to 1/16 inch! I also
don’t have to fold out the extra arm to cut most things because it’s 6 ¼ inches
wide, though with the arm out I can trim even the biggest pieces of paper I use
because it goes to 14 ½ inches!
OK I could go on and on, but here’s a video that does all my
talking for me…
